How will Kirby Smart’s team respond to its first setback of the season? Georgia experienced a similar letdown last season in a trip to Oxford and responded with a fantastic performance against an undefeated Tennessee team. Of course, UGA would have won that game if not for a last-second Hail Mary.

The Bulldogs return to Athens this weekend to face an improving Kentucky game coming off a big league win over Vanderbilt.

Smart was among the first coaches to speak during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference. Here’s a summary of what the Georgia coach had to say:

  • Opening statements: We are excited where we are. We have a chance to do something that no Georgia team has done and that’s go undefeated in the East.
  • Did Jake Fromm handle the road start well? Yeah, I was pleased. He didn’t perform as well as needed to. We were concerned about that going into that game.
  • On Kentucky QB Stephen Johnson: He reminds me of Joshua Dobbs.
