Kirby Smart and Georgia earned a hard-fought 30-15 win over Texas on Saturday night in Austin.

It was a huge victory for the Bulldogs, who were hoping to avoid their second regular-season loss of the 2024 season. However, it didn’t come without some controversy — which Smart addressed in his on-field interview with ESPN’s Katie George after the game.

In the third quarter, Texas picked off Carson Beck and returned the ball deep into Georgia territory. The INT was initially negated, however, for a defensive pass interference flag. But after a review that was caused by Texas fans throwing debris on the field in protest, officials decided to waive off the flag and let the interception stand.

Smart, who was visibly angered by that decision during the game, referenced the overturned call in his initial postgame remarks.

I’m so proud of these guys,” Smart said. Nobody believed, nobody gave us a chance. Your whole network doubted us. Nobody belived in us. And then they tried to rob us with calls in this place.

“And these guys are so resilient. We talked about intent. What was our intent when we walked on the field? Our intent was not to take pictures, not to do all the superstar stuff. Our intent was to eat. Our intent was to come eat and be hungry. I’m not interested in all the bells and whistles. What I want is a team that fights their ass off and they did that tonight.”

Beck had a rough night overall, throwing 3 interceptions. But Smart praised his composure after the game.

I thought Carson had great composure all day,” Smart said. “He had 4 drops to start the day and it didn’t rattle the kid. He threw interceptions, it didn’t rattle the kid. He’s a great player. He takes undue criticism and all he does is lead our team. This was a team victory. Offense, defense, special teams, in a tough place to play.”

Here’s video of Smart’s comments:

Georgia is off next weekend and then will face off against Florida on Nov. 2.
