Kirby Smart knows what it’s like to win in the SEC, and to go undefeated 2 years in a row is a special accomplishment, and he soaked in the 16-6 win over Kentucky on Saturday.
Smart spoke with Jenny Dell of CBS Sports after the game.
“My heart rate’s fine, we’ve got a good team,” Smart said. “We’ve got a bunch of good players that play hard. We knew it would be this kind of game against them, we talked all week, you’re going to get limited possessions because they’re going to eat the clock and they did a great job of that. We didn’t play great red area offense and we didn’t stop people on defense. We let them control the game a little bit with the tempo. Really proud of the way our guys played.”
Georgia became just the third team in SEC history to finish 8-0 in the SEC.
“It means something to this program, because I have immense respect for this league,” Smart said. “When you play in this league and you play on the road and you win 2 years in a row, it shows what kind of character your team has. It’s tough, it’s hard on the road, so that was the next step. That was the momentum to play this and now we’ve got to go get ready to play a big rivalry game.”
