Kirby Smart updated William Poole’s status after the veteran defensive back has missed time this season.
Poole is out for the season because of a “personal matter,” Smart said at his Monday press conference. Poole missed the last 2 games for the Bulldogs after he was a backup against Oregon.
“We’ve kind of been chugging along,” Smart said of no changes to the secondary depth chart. “We’ve got the guys we’ve got and we’ve got to get the guys we’ve got better to get where we want to go.”
Smart was asked about tight end Oscar Delp making his first career TD catch on Saturday: “I think it’s a great confidence boost, but he’s done well in our offense the entire camp … He’s learning how to be a complete tight end.”
Brock Bowers is another tight end that excelled on Saturday against South Carolina, and Smart said the coaching staff is designing plans to get the ball in the hands of a playmaker.
“We’ve got a few of those guys that you’ve got to get touches to, and he’s certainly one that everybody tries to find ways to be creative, and you’ve got to move him around because people are going to know that he’s a target,” Smart said.
Smart and the Bulldogs take on Kent State this week.
