Kirk Herbstreit is a staple on ESPN’s College GameDay, the popular pregame show that airs every Saturday prior to the day’s slate of college football games.
Herbstreit is getting ready for his 27th year with the show, but he isn’t planning on leaving anytime soon.
During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Herbstreit explained why he still has fun on the show (via On3 Sports):
“Lee Corso, I want to say he’ll be 87 years old [next season] – I believe. His birthday is August 7,” Herbstreit said. “What’s great about college GameDay, and it’ll be 27 years next year for me, is it never gets old. Like, the stories constantly change. Players are constantly moving – and now with the portal they’re leaving and going to different schools. So, it’s not like you’re covering the same story over and over and over. For me, I love that. I love how it changes.
“The one thing that remains the same is the passion is there every single week – no matter where you go. I don’t take that for granted at all covering that sport.”
Herbstreit is also part of ESPN’s primetime broadcast crew, so we’ll see how long he continues doing both jobs on a weekly basis. But, for now, it seems he has no plans to change things up.
