Kirk Herbstreit thinks the best team in college football right now has already lost 1 game.

The College Football Playoff selection committee ranked Ohio State No. 1 entering Week 10. Herbstreit, as well as other ESPN analysts, shared that they do not see OSU as the best team right now. The Buckeyes are 8-0 with a resume that includes wins over Notre Dame and Penn State.

While Georgia, Michigan, Florida State and Washington are also undefeated, Herbstreit considers a 1-loss squad to be the “best team” through Week 9, citing the eye test.

“I’m going to say — and you’re going to be mad at me because they lost to Washington. I wouldn’t want to play Oregon right now. If you’re asking me who I think the best team is,” Herbstreit said on the ESPN rankings reveal.

Herbstreit shares his own top 6 every Sunday. After Week 9’s games, he ranked Michigan and Georgia as 1a and 1b, slotting Ohio State at No. 3. He ranked Oregon No. 6.

Herbstreit clarified on Tuesday that he was not arguing for Oregon to be ranked No. 1, but considers the Ducks the most dangerous team.

“Not the most deserving, I’m not saying they should be No. 1. If you’re asking me who I would not want to play, it would be Oregon on a neutral site,” Herbstreit said.

We’ll see if Herbstreit weighs in on the best team after Week 10.
