Kirk Herbstreit is highlighting 3 SEC squads in his top-performing teams of Week 2.
Herbstreit’s top spot goes to Northern Illinois, which stunned a top-5 Notre Dame team in South Bend. Texas is Herbie’s top SEC team, checking in at No. 2 on the 7-team list.
In a top-10 matchup, the Longhorns were 6.5-point favorites on the road at Michigan. Texas won 31-12 in dominating fashion. Steve Sarkisian’s squad notched a 7-0 lead in the 1st quarter and never looked back, taking a 24-6 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Longhorn defense did not allow a touchdown until the final quarter.
It was a big Saturday for the SEC’s UT schools. Tennessee also beat a ranked Power 4 conference foe. The Vols are No. 3 on Herbstreit’s list after thumping NC State 51-10. It was an impressive day on both sides of the ball for Josh Heupel’s squad, as Tennessee outgained NC State 460 yards to 143.
South Carolina also made the Herbstreit list, checking in at No. 5. The Gamecocks went to Kentucky as double-digit underdogs and came away with a 31-6 blowout win over the Wildcats. The South Carolina defense dominated, logging 5 sacks on the day.
Herbstreit has also shared his top-performing players and coaches from Week 2.
