Kirk Herbstreit has updated his top 4 teams in college football, and he has the same group as he did after Week 8 — with a couple of changes.
Herbstreit’s top 4 is the same: Michigan, Georgia, Ohio State, and Florida State. That said, while he had the Wolverines, Bulldogs, Seminoles, and Buckeyes 1-2-3-4 in that order after Week 8, he now has Michigan and Georgia as teams “1a” and “1b” rather than choosing a clear-cut favorite between the 2.
Georgia, minus Brock Bowers, remained perfect as it defeated Florida 43-20 in the Cocktail Party, with the Bulldogs yielding an opening-drive touchdown before rattling off 36 unanswered points to improve to 8-0. They’ll next face 3 opponents in a row currently in the Top 25.
Michigan, who has averaged 49.5 points in their last 4 games and has yet to allow more than 10 points to an opponent this season, was idle during Week 9.
Ohio State is also unscathed after beating Wisconsin 24-10. The Buckeyes gave up just 94 yards on the ground and 259 total yards despite committing 2 turnovers, and have a trip to Rutgers up next on their schedule.
Finally, Florida State cruised past Wake Forest behind 4 total touchdowns by Jordan Travis. The Noles have Pitt next, who were routed by Notre Dame 58-7 on Saturday.
Will the College Football Playoff committee’s initial rankings on Tuesday mirror Herbstreit’s line of thinking?
