The Red Raiders have been wreaking havoc on the high school recruiting trail, securing commitments from several standout playmakers in the 2026 class, including 5-star offensive lineman Felix Ojo, 4-star wide receiver Chase Campbell, 4-star running back Ashton Rowden, and 4-star safety Donvan Webb.

The momentum continued on Thursday when Texas Tech welcomed a massive addition to its 2027 recruiting class. Five-star edge defender LaDamion Guyton announced his commitment to the Red Raiders live on CBS Sports HQ.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 225 pounds, Guyton hails from Savannah, Georgia. The standout from Benedictine Military School chose the Red Raiders over several SEC powerhouses, including Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Guyton is currently ranked by the industry-generated 247 Composite as the No. 2 prospect in the nation for the 2027 class, the top edge rusher in the country, and the No. 1 overall prospect in Georgia.

Recently transferring to Benedictine ahead of his junior season, Guyton previously made a significant impact at Savannah Christian. During his sophomore year, he recorded 52 tackles, including 13.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks, helping his team reach the Georgia Class AAA-A private school state quarterfinals alongside fellow 5-star Georgia signee Elijah Griffin. As a freshman, he earned a spot on the MaxPreps Freshman All-American team, amassing 82 tackles and 10 sacks.

While the twitchy two-point edge rusher is Texas Tech’s first pledge of the 2027 class, this has given them enough points to boost the Red Raiders up to the 20th-ranked class in the country and the No. 2 spot in the Big 12.
