Lamar Brown, No. 1 overall recruit in 2026 and LSU commit, reacts to Brian Kelly firing
The LSU Tigers, as they often do, entered the 2025 campaign with high expectations. Boasting one of the top quarterbacks in the country, they were labeled a College Football Playoff contender. They seemingly confirmed this status by beating Clemson on the road in their season opener.
However, the offensive struggles in that victory wound up persisting. LSU still hasn’t scored 30 points against an FBS program this year. Saturday’s 24-point home loss to Texas A&M — in Death Valley, at night — was the straw that broke the camel’s back. It took approximately 24 hours for the Tigers to fire Brian Kelly afterward.
When a premier college football program fires its head coach, there’s usually a recruiting ripple effect. LSU is unique in that respect, though, particularly when in-state recruits are involved. The social media reaction of Lamar Brown, the No. 1 recruit in the 2026 recruiting class, demonstrates it. Sunday night, he thanked Kelly for being “the first coach” to believe in him.

Brown, a 6-foot-4, 285 lb. 2-way lineman, hails from Baton Rouge. He has grown up essentially on LSU’s campus. It’s possible he re-opens his recruitment in the near future, but there was no indication of such a move in wake of the Kelly news. If he decides to go back on the market, expect Texas A&M — who nearly landed Brown in July 2025 — to be in the running for him.
Brown will be able to officially sign with the program of his choosing during the Early Signing Period in December.
