An unfortunate incident occurred in the lead-up to Ole Miss’s win over Georgia State on Saturday.

Video from before the game shows Georgia State cornerback Tyler Scott ripping a chain off the neck of Ole Miss defensive end Da’Shawn Womack. Scott then appears to run from the scene and toss the chain into the stands.

While the incident didn’t receive much attention on Saturday, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin commented on the matter on Sunday evening. He commended his players for how they handled themselves.

“That was wild,” Kiffin said. “I’ve never seen anything like that. The guy ripped Womack’s chain off his neck, taunted him and then threw it in the stands. I thought our guys handled themselves really well, a lot better than I would have in that situation.”

Kiffin said Womack was asked by law enforcement if he wanted to press charges against the Georgia State defensive back for the incident. Kiffin said Womack declined.

“They asked him if he wanted to press charges and Womack said he’d rather let the guy play,” Kiffin said.

In the end, Georgia State head coach Dell McGee suspended Scott from the game as a consequence for his actions. Womack ended up recording 6 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in the win over the Panthers.

Ole Miss will face Kentucky on the road in Week 2.
