Lane Kiffin isn’t worried about taking the next head coaching job.

This, according to his father Monte Kiffin, in an interview with AL.com. In fact, the elder Kiffin said multiple teams reached out to his son about coaching opportunities following last season.

“I can tell you for sure he’s not thinking about the next head job,” Monte told AL.com. “He’s gotten some interest, but I don’t think Lane was all excited about going because he wants to get his feet on the ground again.”

The younger Kiffin is entering his second year as Alabama’s offensive coordinator, and he’s quietly reviving his career. He’s had the unique distinction, according to the media, for “failing up” at virtually every head coaching job he’s taken. The Raiders, to Tennessee and to USC, Kiffin has had a bad rap in the coaching realm for the last several years.

However, that seems to be changing. He’s out of sight and out of mind. Everything Kiffin isn’t good at, he’s not asked to do. Coaching ball is one of the things he’s great at; designing and calling plays to get playmakers the football is what he’s great at. The 49ers reportedly wanted Kiffin to head their offense.

The University of Alabama set a school record last season for total offense, while first-year quarterback Blake Sims and receiver Amari Cooper set records for passing yards and receiving yards respectively. Alabama also finished in the top 20 nationally in both total offense and scoring offense.

How long will it be before Kiffin takes another head coaching job? Only a matter of time, of course. But he’s doing the best thing for his career right now and staying out of the spotlight.
