Lane Kiffin had a self-deprecating response on Monday when asked about dealing with hot-seat rumors as a coach. Of course, the Rebels play Auburn this week and those are the kinds of things Bryan Harsin has dealt with for weeks, if not months.

“Well, I didn’t do very good, I got fired after 5 games, so I’m probably not the one to ask how to do that,” Kiffin said. “I was 3-2 so I’m probably not the right one to ask that.”

Kiffin has plenty of experience with coaching changes, but the Southern Cal job, which he referred to, ended in 2013 when he famously was fired on an airport tarmac in Los Angeles. Kiffin has since poked fun at the way he was fired, both when he was introduced at Ole Miss, and when he recruited in Southern California in recent years.

When Kiffin was hired, he had a grand welcoming to Oxford, as Rebels fans greeted him as soon as he got off the plane.

“A lot better than another tarmac experience that I had,” Kiffin quipped at the time.

Ole Miss is 6-0 and Auburn is 3-3 ahead of this week’s game at 11 a.m. local time on ESPN.
