Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss face off against a slightly unorthodox Auburn team this Saturday.
The Tigers see both Robby Ashford and Payton Thorne take the field throughout the game, with Ashford hitting the field for running packages and Thorne for passing attacks.
But Kiffin thinks that’s a bit of a misnomer. At the SEC’s weekly teleconference Wednesday, he noted that Thorne is a strong runner as well. Even though their passing attack hasn’t quite caught on, the Tigers pose a threat because of their ability to run the ball from anyone on the offense.
Here’s Kiffin’s full evaluation of Ashford and Thorne:
“I think both guys in general I think people think Robby runs and there’s this big difference with Payton, I think Payton runs really well, too,” Kiffin said. “He’s really quick and fast and he’s played in a lot of big games over the years and really good player. So I know they haven’t had the passing success that maybe they would like, but I think it’s a big challenge for us. I think Payton does really well and has played big in big games over the years.”
The Tigers and Rebels will face off at 7 p.m. ET from The Plains on ESPN.
