LSU head coach Lane Kiffin argued Wednesday that in a lot of ways, NIL has actually made his job easier.
While speaking to popular Barstool Sports podcast Pardon My Take, Kiffin noted that paying players also means those players are subject to fines and more discipline, which in turn adds high expectations that are expected to be met. As Kiffin argues, “they’re like pros now.”
Here’s what Kiffin had to say:
โI think with them getting paid, I donโt think thatโs as challenging,” Kiffin told Big Cat and PFT on Pardon My Take. “I donโt think itโs as challenging to get guys to do things because weโre paying you. If you donโt want to do it, thereโs a fine system, just like the NFL. I find itโs actually easier.”
“They kind of, in their mind, think theyโre like pros now โ which is good. Thatโs how we talk to them. So youโve got high expectations. โHey, we expect you do these things. We expect you to do these things in the weight room, in the film room, all these different things.โ If you want to be a normal student and not really do all those things, thatโs fine. Go see the GM and give back half your money, if you want to do half the work.”
Kiffin and Co. have 40 incoming transfers this season, including former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt, Ole Miss edge Princewell Umanmielen and Florida wide receiver Eugene Wilson, to name a few. LSU’s roster is one of the most expensive in college football, worth north of $40 million per some reports.
