Lane Kiffin knows Nick Saban as well as any other coach in college football. He was an offensive coordinator for him at Alabama from 2014-16. During his time their, the duo won a national championship in 2015.
On Monday, news started to spread as former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy said he heard from a person ‘in the know’ when it comes to college football that Saban hasn’t coached his last football game.
With SEC Media Days starting on Monday in Atlanta, this has been a big talking point among the coaches and media in the league. Kiffin was asked about his former boss, and he echoed the statement that McElroy said.
“He’s not going to need me to hire him,” Kiffin said. “I don’t think he’s done. I think he’ll be back. Whether that’s college or NFL, I think he’ll be back.”
This is an interesting development as a reason why Saban left was because of the direction that college football is going. Saban has adjusted to the post-retirement life very well, as he has become an integral part of ESPN’s College Gameday on Saturday mornings.
While it may still seem unlikely that Saban decides to come back, this topic is surely not going to go away until the former Alabama coach makes a statement.
