Lane Kiffin reflected on the tragic passing of Luke Knox during his Friday media opportunity.
Knox spent 4 seasons at Ole Miss (2018-21) before transferring to FIU ahead of the 2022 season. Kiffin said he got to know Knox well, coaching him for the past 2 seasons. Michael Katz of The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal shared Kiffin’s comments from the press conference:
“Really neat kid. Got to spend a lot of one-on-one time with him. I’m fortunate for that. Sometimes, you don’t, because you’ve got so many problems, (I) just happened to with him. Very unfortunate. Thoughts and prayers are to the family and friends, which, we’re in the midst of a lot of that right here, even non-players that were close to him, office workers, equipment people. He impacted a lot of people, probably more than he imagined. And you can see that by the reaction from so many people hurt.”
Knox started his Ole Miss career at linebacker. He switched to tight end ahead of the 2021 season. At FIU, he reunited with Mike MacIntyre, who was Ole Miss’ defensive coordinator for the start of Knox’s career.
Knox passed suddenly Thursday morning. He was 22.
