It appears that Lane Kiffin will not be heading to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl.
Jacques Doucet of WAFB reported Thursday morning that Kiffin is expected to attend the LSU women’s basketball game against Kentucky at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge. The game between the No. 5 Tigers and the No. 11 Wildcats has a tipoff time of 8 p.m. ET, the same time as kickoff of the Sugar Bowl at the Superdome in New Orleans.

It was reported earlier this week that Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry invited Kiffin to the Sugar Bowl. Kiffin was also reportedly in communication with ESPN about appearing on the broadcast of the CFP quarterfinal showdown featuring his former team, No. 6 seed Ole Miss, and No. 3 seed Georgia.
Kiffin led Ole Miss to an 11-1 record in the regular season but took the LSU job and left in unprecedented fashion before the Rebels earned their first College Football Playoff berth in program history. The program named Pete Golding the new full-time head coach after Kiffin’s departure. Golding guided the Rebels to a CFP First Round win over Tulane.
