Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin added another layer of drama Friday to the chaos he has sown the past 2 weeks regarding his future employment.
Kiffin appeared live on the SEC Network to discuss Friday’s Egg Bowl matchup against cross-state rival Mississippi State (noon ET, ABC) and mentioned that the Rebels had been the target of an overnight theft at Davis-Wade Stadium in Starkville.
Kiffin said in a SEC Network interview with Marty Smith that Mississippi State fans broke into their locker room at 3 am and stole quarterback Trinidad Chambliss’s jersey. The coach continued by saying Rebels officials know who the culprits were because Ole Miss equipment manager Ken Crain had set up cameras in the dressing room.
Kiffin’s Rebels are poised to earn a first-ever berth in the College Football Playoff, but first must get past a pesky Mississippi State team that is eager to end Ole Miss’s 2-game winning streak. In the rivalry, Ole Miss leads 66-49-6 all-time.
The last time Mississippi State won the Egg Bowl in Starkville was in 2019, a 21-20 victory over Ole Miss. The Rebels are 25-15-3 all-time in Egg Bowls played in Starkville. Ole Miss also won last season’s Egg Bowl 26-14 in Oxford.
