LaNorris Sellers ‘looking forward’ to South Carolina’s trip to face Texas A&M at Kyle Field
LaNorris Sellers burst onto the college football and SEC scene last fall, authoring one of the best freshman seasons in conference history.
The South Carolina native took over the Gamecocks offense as a redshirt freshman and was relentless as a passer and a runner. He threw for 2,534 yards with 18 touchdown tosses and just 7 interceptions. On the ground, Sellers gashed defenses for 674 yards and 7 TDs, and his versatility and big-play capability helped him earn SEC Freshman of the Year honors.
Sellers was electrifying throughout his first all running the South Carolina offense, but some games stood out. Like the prime-time, national TV home game against Texas A&M on Nov. 2, when the Gamecocks blew out the Aggies, 44-20, to snap Texas A&M’s 7-game winning streak. The victory was South Carolina’s 2nd in a row and got the Gamecocks rolling on a 6-game win streak that was capped by Norris’s late heroics in the regular-season finale against Clemson.
Back to the Texas A&M victory in front of that national TV audience, when Sellers threw for 244 yards, tossed 2 touchdown passes without an interception while running for 106 more yards and another TD on the ground. It was a complete performance by South Carolina and a complete performance by Sellers. Fast-forward to SEC Media Days on Monday in Atlanta, where Sellers was asked about the rematch with Texas A&M in 2025, this time at a hostile Kyle Field in College Station.
“I look forward to it. I heard so much about the stadium, so I’m ready to see that. We went my (first) year. We played at, like, 12ish. Even when we played it was kind of loud. It was cool seeing all the military stuff before the game, the pregame warm-ups when they’re walking around the field — all that. Texas A&M was an exciting game just because it was a night game as well,” explained Sellers to reporters on Monday.
“They were big, physical. I remember Sheman Stewart hitting me one specific play. We talk about that all the time. But they’re super fast, physical. They’re smart. Looking forward to it.”
Sellers will try to recreate that magic from 2024 against the Aggies, but this time he’ll have to do it back at Kyle Field instead of the friendly confines of Williams-Brice Stadium.
