Despite the off-the-field issues that caused former Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil to fall all the way down to the No. 13 overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, many considered the pick to be among the best in the draft. After all, Miami landed arguably the best prospect without having to trade up into the Top 10.

The only criticism some had with the Dolphins first-round selection was the fact Miami did not have a glaring need at tackle heading into the draft, thus finding an immediate role for Tunsil could prove difficult. Those concerns have proven to be valid as Miami has been playing Tunsil out of his natural position after shifting him inside to play guard.

According to his head coach Adam Gase, the transition has not been easy for Tunsil – who is currently practicing with the second-team offensive line.

“He’s got a lot to learn,” Gase said, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. “… That inside is a different angle. He’s learning. The good thing about him is he works hard.”

Dallas Thomas, the player ahead of Tunsil on the Dolphins’ depth chart, is coming off a down year and was recently blown back into quarterback Ryan Tannehill during Friday night’s preseason game. However, despite Thomas’ struggles, Miami is not prepared to elevate the rookie from Ole Miss to the first team unit just yet.
