Lee Corso’s headgear picks have officially come full circle. In what will be the final pick of his legendary career with College GameDay, Corso donned the Brutus Buckeye headgear to pick Ohio State over No. 1 Texas.
What was an originally funny moment back in 1996 became history when Corso picked Ohio State to beat Penn State, pulling out the Brutus Buckeye headgear to make his selection. Since then, Corso has made a habit of pulling out the headgear for his final pick – which features the 2 teams GameDay is on-location for.
A few thought that Corso would pick Texas just to throw everyone off. Not so fast, my friend.
This is going to be a simply massive game for both the Buckeyes and Longhorns, which may go without saying. Arch Manning and Julian Sayin are both talented quarterbacks, but both have to start the season against what could both be considered as 2 of the best 5 defenses in the country – and Manning’s job is even harder considering he has to do it in one of the loudest stadiums in college football.
Even without all the history, Corso’s Ohio State pick makes sense. It’s never a bad idea to pick against the home team, especially when that home team is the defending national champion.
It’s the end of an era, folks.
