It’s a challenging year for forecasting the College Football Playoff with various start and finish dates for the FBS conferences. Lee Corso, however, already sees two “locks” for the field of four.
“Alabama and Ohio State appear to be a lock for two spots,” Corso said on Saturday’s College GameDay. “Clemson and Notre Dame are fighting for the No. 3 spot. The Pac-12’s unbeaten team will be in play for spot No. 4. Kirk, it’s 2020, anything can happen.”
Alabama is out in front as the SEC’s only undefeated team. Ohio State, on the other hand, is also undefeated, but at just 1-0 due to the Big Ten getting a later start.
After Saturday’s battle of undefeated teams, one of Clemson or Notre Dame will join the one-loss club. Since Notre Dame is part of the ACC for this season, we could get a Round II in the ACC Championship Game.
As for the Pac-12, that’s a bold prediction from Corso. The conference has only been represented in the final four twice (Oregon in 2014, Washington in 2016). The conference’s season is getting off to a rough start already with two of the six games scheduled for opening weekend canceled.
We’ll see if Corso sticks with that CFP lineup.
