Lee Corso will make his 400th headgear pick during Saturday’s episode of “College GameDay”. The GameDay crew is in Boulder as Deion Sanders and Colorado prepare to face Colorado State.

Corso’s 1st headgear pick came on October 5, 1996, with GameDay in Columbus for Ohio State vs. Penn State, a No. 3 vs. No. 4 matchup at the Horseshoe. Corso wore a Brutus Buckeye head for that game as he predicted an Ohio State victory, with the Buckeyes eventually blowing out the Nittany Lions 38-7.

The headgear pick became the program’s signature segment. Twenty-seven years later, Corso is poised to do it for the 400th time. ESPN showed a tribute video marking the occasion:

Afterwards, fans gathered for the GameDay filming broke out in a “Corso” chant, with Corso growing emotional as a result.

Lee Corso is an institution in college football, and sports as a whole. His impact on broadcasting will be felt for generations to come.
