Did you think you were going to get through the first college football Saturday without shedding a tear? Not so fast, my friend!
We still have 1 week to prepare for Lee Corso to don some headgear for the final time, but the celebration for the college football legend has already begun. Friday night, ESPN aired a 1-hour program — Not So Fast My Friend: A Lee Corso Special — to kick things off. Shortly after, they released a nearly 7-minute video compilation of the sports world giving Corso his flowers.
Corso is obviously known for college football, and plenty of the sport’s biggest figures spoke in the tribute. But as the video demonstrates, his notoriety stretches well past the college football landscape. Will Ferrell and Ken Jeong, along with Corso’s children and grandchildren, and fans from across the country made appearances. And if their words didn’t make you reach for the tissues, Kirk Herbstreit’s will.
As Herbstreit said, it has been an incredible honor and a privilege to take in Corso’s every move over the past 38 years. His final selection will be Bevo or Brutus, and it will occur next Saturday, when College GameDay comes to us live from Columbus before No. 1 Texas battles No. 3 Ohio State.
