While Tennessee continues to search for a bigger running back to put on the field in short-yardage situations, one option has been removed from the depth chart following a recent injury in Knoxville.

During his Monday morning press conference, Jeremy Pruitt announced freshman Len’Neth Whitehead is expected to miss the rest of the season due to injury.

“Another guy that was going really well was Len’Neth Whitehead,” Pruitt said on Monday. “He had been out because of a foot injury but come back and was doing really well, but unfortunately, he hurt his shoulder last week in camp. Probably going to surgery on it next week to get him back in time for spring ball.”

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound running back/linebacker signed with Tennessee out of Athens Academy in Athens, Ga., as a member of the 2020 recruiting cycle.

Whitehead was rated as a four-star prospect coming out of Athens Academy, where he played both sides of the ball. During his junior season, Whitehead rushed for 1,481 yards and 25 touchdowns for Athens Academy. In addition to his accolades on the field, Whitehead was a three-time Georgia state champion in the shot put.
