There’s got to be a joke somewhere about a non-Power Five AAC team not making enough money to keep the lights on.
Thursday night’s AAC matchup between the Temple Owls and East Carolina Pirates was delayed 15 minutes after the lights went out during a play.
With 3:36 remaining in the fourth quarter and Temple leading 27-10, the Owls quarterback threw a wide receiver screen, and the lights went out at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium just as the tackle was being made.
ESPN sideline reporter Molly McGrath said on the broadcast that she had been told it was from a power outage.
Pat McAfee, who was on the broadcast team with Adam Amin, Matt Hasselbeck and Molly McGrath, sang Journey, too, “When the lights go down on the Pirates.”

Temple went on to punt that series, and ECU scored a touchdown to cut the lead to 27-17. The Pirates then recovered an onside kick, but they couldn’t score again.
The Owls improved to 4-1, while the Pirates dropped to 3-3.
