When the Detroit Lions hired new head coach Matt Patricia, they committed to toughness, and this past NFL Draft showed it.

The Lions set out to take the best hard-nosed players available, and that all started with former Arkansas center Frank Ragnow.

Detroit selected Ragnow with the No. 20 overall pick in this past NFL Draft, and they are eagerly looking forward to what he brings to the table. GM Bob Quinn recently joined the NFL Network show “Good Morning Football” to discuss drafting Ragnow.

“Yeah, Frank was a guy we started evaluating, I’d say two years ago,” Quinn said, via DetriotNews. “He was a guy that was thinking about coming out in the draft last year. We had him high on our board last year. He decided to stay in school and came back this year, had a great senior season before he got injured, and really checked every box throughout the process. Real easy pick for us at No. 20.”

Ragnow is the perfect candidate for the Lions to build their offensive line around in the future, and he also brings an added versatility. He’s a great center, but he can play guard, too, when needed. Perhaps Ragnow’s name wasn’t the most popular entering the draft, and potentially some may have been surprised the Lions picked him at No. 20.

But Detroit is looking to channel the Patriots’ toughness, something Patricia hopes to establish quickly, and Ragnow brings that type of grit to Detroit.
