The latest name rumored to be among the favorite to land the Tennessee job is Dave Doeren. While the current N.C. State coach is coming off his best season in Raleigh, 8-4 overall and 6-2 in ACC play, his career record isn’t any better than Butch Jones’ — who, of course, Tennessee just ran out of Rocky Top with an $8 million dollar golden parachute.

One name that many are eager to attach to the Tennessee job is Lane Kiffin. The FAU coach has turned around his program in his first season on the job and appears to be a better option at this point than Doeren. However, as is typically the case when dealing with Kiffin, there’s much more to consider when it comes to the former Alabama coordinator and Tennessee head coach.

Current UT AD John Currie was a member of the Tennessee athletic department when the school hired Kiffin to take over for Phillip Fulmer years ago. Kiffin’s tenure lasted only one season before he departed for USC and the bad blood appears to have never healed from that exit.

According to Kiffin, his agent Jimmy Sexton approached Currie two weeks ago and asked if Tennessee was interested in the FAU coach. Kiffin told the story Thursday on ESPNU Radio on Siriux XM:
