The big news Tennessee fans had been waiting for finally happened on Sunday morning, as the Volunteers fired embattled coach Butch Jones following a 50-17 loss at Missouri.
Naturally, that news dominated the talk in Knoxville and across the world of SEC football all day, and on Monday, Tennessee newspapers commemorated the moment with artfully designed front pages.
As you can see below, The Tennessean and the Knoxville News-Sentinel went all-out with their cover designs for Monday’s editions:

The Tennessee news papers are going to have plenty to write about in the coming weeks and months, too, as the Vols search for Jones’s replacement.
Former Michigan coach Brady Hoke will serve as the team’s interim coach for the final two games, but it’s likely the Vols will try to make a splashy outside hire to turn the struggling program around quickly.
Whenever the new hire is made, though, he’s likely to get the same sort of front-page treatment from the Tennessee newspapers.
