There haven’t been very many bright spots for the LSU Tigers so far this season, as just about everything that could have gone wrong for the Bayou Bengals has gone wrong in one way or another.
One of the few lights in what’s been a very dark season down in Baton Rouge has been the play of true freshman defensive back DJ Pickett, who has continued to improve week after week in the LSU secondary.
Pickett has gained a reputation for making game-changing plays, and that held true once again Saturday against Western Kentucky, where Pickett earned the game ball from interim head coach Frank Wilson.
The award was well deserved for Pickett, as he picked up a massive sack and interception that helped the Tigers escape with a 13-10 win against the Hilltoppers on Senior Day in Death Valley.
A former 5-star recruit, Pickett was the highest-ranked player in the Tigers’ 2025 recruiting class, a class that ranked seventh overall in the country according to 247Sports.
He was an early enrollee, joining the program back in January, and quickly turned heads on the LSU coaching staff with his electric play. He’s played in every game for the Tigers so far this season, and Saturday’s game against Western Kentucky was the second start of his promising young career.
