LSU has been in discussions with head coach Brian Kelly about his potential departure, according to a report by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Sunday afternoon.

The school has reportedly had these discussions with Kelly concerning his future, with the Tigers’ struggles continuing on Saturday night with a disastrous 49-25 loss to Texas A&M. The loss was at home and on national TV, and it dropped LSU to 5-3 overall and just 2-3 in the SEC.

The Tigers were actually leading the game, 18-14, at halftime, but it all fell apart in the second half, as LSU allowed an astounding 35 straight points to fall behind 49-18 before scoring a meaningless touchdown late in the game. By that time, the stands at Death Valley were empty, at least with LSU fans. There were plenty of Texas A&M fans still there to shower the still-unbeaten Aggies with love.

There was 0 love going on for the Tigers and especially for Kelly, who heard the “fire Kelly” chants as he was walking off the field. Now a day later comes this report by Thamel, which stated Kelly’s situation in Baton Rouge is very much “in flux.”

Kelly is owed $54 million in buyout money, according to the ESPN report.

Things don’t get any easier for LSU and Kelly. After a bye week, the Tigers visit No. 4 Alabama on Nov. 8.

In light of Sunday’s report, the jury is still out on whether Kelly will still be the Tigers’ head coach by then.
