Of all the reasons for No. 4 LSU’s surprisingly successful season, Cole Tracy is perhaps the most overlooked.
The graduate transfer from Division II Assumption College has been nearly automatic as the Tigers kicker, making 21 of 23 field goals. That includes the game-winner at Auburn in September, and his only two misses have come from beyond 50 yards.
Tracy was once again instrumental to LSU’s success in the team’s 19-3 win against then-No. 22 Mississippi State last Saturday, earning SEC Specialist of the Week recognition for the fourth time this season. According to a tweet from LSU athletics director of digital media Todd Politz, Tracy is the only player to do so since the league began recognizing specialists 16 years ago.
Since the @SEC started honoring Specialists in 2002, no player has earned the honor more than 3 times in a season.
Until @cole__tracy. #LSU

Tracy may be called upon to have a similar performance when the Tigers (7-1, 4-1 SEC) host No. 1 Alabama (8-0, 5-0) at 8 p.m. ET on Nov. 3.
