LSU is looking to turn back the clock to 2019 – on offense at least – with new offensive coordinator Jake Peetz and passing game coordinator DJ Mangas. The two were brought in by Ed Orgeron to run “Joe Brady’s offense.”
Kayshon Boutte wasn’t part of that 2019 squad, but his strong freshman showing was a bright spot in 2020. On Monday, Boutte was asked for his early impression of the passing attack coordinated by Mangas
“He’s coming in with a great plan,” Boutte said. “He works us. I can’t even lie. He holds us to that high standard.”
Boutte played in all 10 games as a true freshman, catching 45 passes for 735 yards. He had a particularly strong December, posting triple-digit reception yardage in each of the last three LSU games. He capped it off by catching 14 passes for a monster 308-yard, 3-touchdown performance in the season finale win over Ole Miss.
LSU fans are hoping that the Mangas scheme means a big year for Boutte.
