LSU is competing for the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament Saturday night against Vanderbilt, but it may do so without both head coach Will Wade and freshman Javonte Smart.
Wade was suspended indefinitely by LSU Friday after Yahoo! Sports’ report claiming the FBI has a wiretap conversation of Wade discussing a “strong-ass offer” made to a recruit with a former agent that has since been convicted and sentenced to prison time following an FBI investigation into corrupting in college basketball.
Although not specifically identified during the call, Smart is at the center of the allegations, and according to Watch Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, Smart is likely to be held out in the regular season finale.
The Baton Rouge native Smart is the former No. 1 player in the state of Louisiana and is averaging 11.5 points per game.
