Mac Jones is having a rough 2023 season. For the second straight week, the New England Patriots have benched their starting quarterback. Jones was relieved by Bailey Zappe as New England trailed the New Orleans Saints 31-0 in Foxborough.

The Saints’ first score came off a Jones miscue. Tyrann Mathieu intercepted Jones in the 1st quarter and returned it 27 yards to make it a pick-6.

Jones finished the game 12-of-22 for 110 yards and 2 interceptions. He was also sacked twice for a loss of 21 yards. Sunday marks back-to-back rough outings for Jones and the Patriots.

Bill Belichick’s lost 38-3 to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4. Sunday’s game is on track for a similar final score, as the Saints have made it 34-0 with 4 minutes to go.

ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky recently blamed Belichick for Jones’ Year 3 regression. For the season, Jones has 1,008 passing yards, 5 TDs and 6 interceptions.

The Patriots face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6. We’ll see if Jones holds onto the starting job.
