Marcus Freeman must’ve been wearing some Irish-colored glasses when he proclaimed Michael Mayer as the best tight end in football. As SEC fans, and especially Georgia supporters, pointed out, the Notre Dame coach must’ve forgotten about Georgia star Brock Bowers.

Some Georgia/SEC fans thought it was a joke that Freeman would even suggest something like this.

The numbers may tell a different story that Freeman may not know. As Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald pointed out, they go like this:

Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer 33 catches for 351 yards and 5 TDs in 5 games. Georgia’s Brock Bowers 22 catches for 378 yards and 2 TDs, 3 rushes for 82 yards and 3 TDs in 6 games.
