Marcus Freeman has almost assuredly taken Notre Dame to the College Football Playoff after leading the Fighting Irish on an unlikely 10-game win streak after that shocking Week 2 loss to Northern Illinois.
Now, Freeman and the Irish sit back and wait to see where they will be heading.
But what about where Freeman might be heading after this suddenly magical season is over?
According to FOX Sports’ Peter Schrager, Freeman should be a name to watch as a possible candidate for the Chicago Bears’ head coaching vacancy. The Bears fired Matt Eberflus on Friday, 1 day after a frustrating Thanksgiving Day loss to the Detroit Lions.
“Another name that you haven’t heard anywhere else that I would keep your eye on is Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman,” said Schrager on Sunday morning. “(The Bears) are looking for a leader-of-men-type coach. Marcus Freeman (is) a name to watch early on in that process.”
According to @PSchrags, the Bears fired Matt Eberflus Friday just minutes after his morning media session.
Also, Schrager has the latest on Jets veterans Aaron Rodgers and Tyron Smith.

Former Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren is now the president of the Bears, and Schrager reasoned that Warren’s college football background could have him looking toward a guy like Freeman as the answer in Chicago.
For now, Freeman is the answer in South Bend, and he’ll be coaching Notre Dame in the inaugural 12-team Playoff as the Bears’ coaching search plays out.
