Georgia’s quarterback battle is very close.
Brice Ramsey, Faton Bauta and UVA transfer Greyson Lambert continue battling for the job during fall camp, and Mark Richt admitted he doesn’t have a pecking order yet and it’ll be hard to establish one before game preparations begin for Louisiana-Monroe. He even goes as far as saying he could see two quarterbacks taking reps in the season opener.
“When you start preparing for Louisiana-Monroe you’d like to have a pecking order,” Richt said, via the AJC. “But I’m not even set on that yet. I’m not set on saying that I’m gonna have a first-teamer by the time we do that. There’s a chance we have a couple guys taking reps in game one, I’m not sure.”
Now, could this quarterback competition work itself out over the next week? Certainly. That’s what the coaching staff hopes, at least. Richt’s goal over the next 10 to 15 days is to establish the pecking order.
Most have assumed that Ramsey will get the starting nod, but David Pollack and ESPN’s Travis Haney both predicted that Greyson Lambert will win the job.
The Bulldogs don’t need an Aaron Murray-type quarterback throwing for 3,500 yards. They simply need a quarterback to execute the offense, make a few plays down the field and not turn the football over.
