Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats won a thrilling Citrus Bowl against Iowa on Saturday afternoon in Orlando, scoring on a late touchdown drive to take home a 20-17 win.
The win gave Kentucky a 10-3 final record for the season, marking a huge milestone for Stoops and the Wildcats.
After the game, Stoops praised Iowa’s toughness, but added that he has a pretty tough team of his own:
“You know when you’re playing Iowa it’s going to be a game like that,” he said. “One of the last things I said walking out after halftime was ‘This is going 60 minutes.’ I said to them, ‘They’re not going anywhere. I know them. However, we’re not either.’ So proud of this group, very hard-fought game.”
He also gushed about WR Wan’Dale Robinson’s heroic efforts. The Nebraska transfer had 10 catches for 170 yards, converting some key third downs and setting up the Wildcats for points with a couple of his other big catches:
“It just says an awful lot about him,” Stoops said. “Competitor, so tough. The third-down catch he made in the first half set us up for some points. I have a lot of love and respect for him.”
Kentucky has plenty of key players coming back next year, including QB Will Levis. We’ll see how the Wildcats fare in 2022, but the future continues to be bright under Stoops.
