Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats are coming off a 24-16 win against Toledo in Week 1, but the competition gets much tougher in Week 2 as they host SEC rival Ole Miss.
Last year, the Wildcats got their biggest win of the season, when they scored in the final minutes to knock off Ole Miss, 20-17. It’s been a close affair heading into the 4th quarter for 8 straight matchups, and the past 4 games have been decided by 3 points or less.
Still, preparing for the Rebels is never an easy thing, and Stoops said the biggest challenge facing Ole Miss is how fast they play.
“The tempo is the first thing, obviously, they go extremely fast and they dress things up very well,” Stoops said at the SEC’s weekly teleconference on Wednesday. “They do what they do, but present it differently. They present it very fast and have very good players out there doing it. A typical team for them, they’re good in all areas.”
In the game against the Rebels last year, Kentucky did as good of job as any team when it came to slowing the Rebels down. The Wildcats defense also performed well against Toledo in Week 1, but this week is a whole different story.
While they played well defensively, Kentucky’s offense struggled in the win against Toledo, and the Wildcats may need a repeat performance by their defense from last year to win this game. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
