Mark Stoops has earned national recognition for Kentucky’s big win over a ranked Florida team.

Stoops had been named The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week for Week 5 after the Wildcats defeated the Gators in blowout fashion, 33-14.

“What a superb all-around job by coach Stoops this past weekend, preparing his players for their toughest matchup of the season so far,” Jim Terry, chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation, said in a release. “Coach Dodd would have admired the toughness and dominance that coach Stoops’ team showed on Saturday in all three phases of the game.”

Stoops’ troops have notched Kentucky’s first 3-game winning streak over Florida since 1951 under Bear Bryant. UK snapped a multi-decade losing streak to UF in 2018 under Stoops and has turned things around in the annual series, winning 4 of the last 6 meetings.

The Dodd Trophy also recognized Stoops and his staff for their off-field work in support of Kentucky Children’s Hospital.

“Coach Stoops has built a tremendous culture at Kentucky by developing his student-athletes to be leaders both on and off the field,” Gary Stokan, CEO and president of the Peach Bowl, said in the announcement. “He’s continuously taken the program to new heights during his 11 years in Lexington and is very deserving of this honor.”

UK is now 5-0 and ranked No. 20 in the AP Top 25 heading into a Week 6 showdown with No. 1 Georgia. An upset over the top-ranked Bulldogs would be the biggest win of Stoops’ tenure in Lexington. The game is set for 7 p.m. ET, airing on ESPN.
