The Ole Miss defense struggled mightily in 2020, finishing last in the SEC in scoring defense (38.3 points per game), total defense (519 yards per game) and rushing defense (206.9 yards per game). For Lane Kiffin’s squad to contend in the SEC West this fall, the Rebels will need to be significantly improved on defense. Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral recently shared how he has seen strides from the group in practice.
“You know, I’m really proud of them,” Corral told reporters, per David Johnson of OM Spirit. “They’ve had a…it’s hard not to pay attention to what people are saying because we all go through it in that locker room. Them, especially. They feel the disrespect and it is what it is. You are what you put on film. You can’t deny anything.”
“Seeing the strides that they took from last winter to now…they’re a totally different team. They’re a totally different defense. They’re more aggressive and they’ve got good leaders on that side of the ball that are going to get the job done,” Corral added.
Ole Miss fans are certainly hoping to see an improved defense when the Rebels take the field on Sept. 6 in Atlanta against Louisville.
