Matt Luke’s father gives a win total his son must achieve to keep Ole Miss job
During his introductory press conference this week, one thing was quite clear about Matt Luke — he loves Ole Miss. That love comes from his background playing at the school, which occurred after following in the footsteps of his family. Matt’s older brother Tom played quarterback for the Rebels in the 80’s, and his father Tom was a defensive back for the school in the 60’s.
Like father like son you could say.
Aside from their shared love for the University of Mississippi, the Luke’s also share high expectations. Matt had an opportunity to leave the school last offseason for South Carolina but likely considering the possibility he could take over the program from former coach Hugh Freeze, the pull to stay in Oxford proved to be too much for Luke.
Now that he has his dream job, albeit under less than ideal circumstances, what does Luke have to do to keep it?
During a recent radio interview with WNSP Sports Radio 105.5 FM out of Mobile, Tom Luke revealed his answer to that question. While noting the situation will be tough, Tom expressed his opinion that his son is ready for the challenge but will have to achieve some level of success to keep the job past the upcoming season.

Finishing the season with a winning record in Oxford may be a tall task but would it really be tougher than a former walk-on rising the coaching ranks at his alma mater and being named interim head coach?
One thing is for sure after watching a recent Ole Miss hype video, Matt Luke doesn’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon. He plans on keeping his dream job by winning this season.
