Matthew Golden wasted no time making an impact for Texas in the Cotton Bowl. Unfortunately, he has been in and out of the game and was taken to the locker room in the 2nd quarter.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Golden headed to the injury tent to get both of his ankles taped during the 1st half. He was reinserted into action, but it was not long before Golden exited again, and ESPN’s cameras captured Golden being taken to the locker room with trainers.

Golden has the longest play across the first 3 drives for Texas’s offense. That would be a casual one-handed grab that went for 24 yards and a first down. Unfortunately, Golden was also flagged for a 15-yard facemask penalty while trying to block on an ensuing drive that ultimately sucked the life out of the drive.

Quinn Ewers is already struggling and the Longhorns have not generated much offense against the Buckeyes thus far. If Golden cannot return and be effective, it will be a major loss after he led Texas with 936 receiving yards and 9 receiving touchdowns.

We’ll see how Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns adjust, but it has been a stagnant opening for the offense.
