Matthew Golden just started the Cotton Bowl off with a bang.
The standout Texas wide receiver, who has really played his best football across the past few weeks, hauled in a truly wild catch to move the chains early in the first quarter. Texas was not able to finish this drive in the end zone, but the fact that Golden was able to so casually make this catch signifies that Texas isn’t planning on going quietly against the red-hot Buckeyes.
Here’s a look at the catch:
And for those who want to naysay and say Golden never had possession of this ball, think again. Golden does bobble the rock at first, but he’s able to secure it just before he takes his final step on the green turf.
This is nothing surprising for Longhorns fans. Golden has turned the intensity up to an 11 lately – He had 7 receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown against Arizona State and 162 receiving yards in the SEC Championship game against Georgia.
Texas is going to have its work cut out for it against these Buckeyes. Ohio State demolished Tennessee and Oregon to reach this national semifinal matchup. The winner of this game will face Notre Dame for a shot at the national title.
