Mississippi State made a big addition in the transfer portal on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs earned a commitment from ex-Georgia wide receiver Anthony Evans. A former 4-star prospect, Evans spent 2 seasons at Georgia before deciding to enter the transfer portal.

News of his commitment was first shared by On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Wednesday afternoon:

Over 2 seasons with the Bulldogs, Evans caught 13 passes for 123 yards and 1 touchdown. He never became a fixture in Georgia’s passing game despite his strong prospect pedigree.

However, Evans did make an impact on Georgia’s special teams units as a returner. He returned 17 punts for 129 yards in 2024. He also had 7 kickoff returns for 124 yards. That’s a role he could slide into during his Mississippi State career as well.

He now joins a Mississippi State program that’s hoping to take a big step forward in Year 2 under Jeff Lebby. In 2024, the Bulldogs averaged just 5.75 yards per play, which ranked just 13th in the SEC.

Evans will get the opportunity to face his old team on Nov. 8 when UGA makes the trip to Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville. He has 2 seasons of eligibility remaining.
