The Mississippi State Bulldogs lost their NCAA Baseball Tournament opener to Oklahoma by a lopsided and incredible 20-10 margin, making their chances of advancing look slim.

However, the Bulldogs bounced back and eliminated host Florida State with a ninth-inning walk-off home run on Saturday evening, and then eliminated Samford on Sunday.

Needing to beat the Sooners twice to advance to the super-regional round, the Bulldogs came through on Sunday night, beating Oklahoma 13-5 to set up a winner-takes-all Monday showdown.

The Bulldogs were up to the task, controlling the game from the start. Then, taking a 4-1 lead into the top of the ninth inning, Mississippi State tacked on four insurance runs and then held on for an 8-1 victory.

Interestingly, the Bulldogs have now won their last eight regional games in which they’ve faced elimination — an incredible feat.

Now, the Bulldogs will take on fellow SEC squad Vanderbilt in the super-regionals. That will be a best-of-three series, with dates and start times to be determined.
