Mississippi State lineman Michael Story pleaded guilty this week to animal cruelty, according to the Clarion-Ledger.

The redshirt senior was charged in August 2018 with aggravated cruelty to a Great Dane dog. He did not give the dog food or water for three straight days and said that the dog had been left alone for “roughly a weeks time,” per the complaint. The dog belonged to Story’s ex-girlfriend.

The judge slapped Story with a $1,000 fine, a six-month suspended jail sentence and two years of probation.

The lineman was suspended for two games in 2018 and played in nine others. However, Story was back at practice Tuesday working off to the side in a red non-contact jersey.

“As we announced last August, Michael was indefinitely suspended immediately following the incident,” the Mississippi State athletics department said Wednesday in a statement to the Clarion Ledger. “He served his punishment and his discipline was handled accordingly. We will have no further comment on this matter.”

The Ripley, Mississippi, native was rated a 3-star prospect in the class of 2015.
