Missouri transfer linebacker Josiah Trotter was named to the preseason Lombardi Award watch list on Tuesday, just another sign that he’s poised for a big impact in his first season in the SEC.

After being forced to redshirt during his true freshman season at West Virginia in 2023 because of a knee injury, Trotter had his breakout year last fall. He piled up 93 total tackles, 37 of them solo, with a half-sack and an interception as a redshirt freshman for the Mountaineers. Trotter was named Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year, but he wanted more.

Trotter entered the transfer portal after the season and in mid-December the Philadelphia product decided he wanted to play at Missouri in 2025.

The Tigers football social media account celebrated Trotter being named to the Lombardi watch list with this post:

Being named to the Lombardi watch list carries big weight for any player. It’s an annual honor that’s given to the college football player who best embodies the values and spirit of legendary football coach Vince Lombardi, with a focus on character, discipline and performance.

Missouri hopes to get all of those things and more from the redshirt sophomore this fall. Just by being named to the Lombardi watch list, even in August, it appears that many observers think Trotter will do great things in Columbia in 2025.

Trotter comes from a football family that celebrates linebackers. He is the son of former NFL linebacker Jeremiah Trotter and the brother of current Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
